West Cork History Festival - this weekend in Skibbereen

Now in its third year, the West Cork History Festival will get underway tomorrow in the beautiful grounds of Rosebank, formerly the dower house of the Liss Ard estate, less than a mile outside the town of Skibbereen. It runs until Sunday.

Anyone with an interest in history should check out the programme. The Festival presents talks and discussions by leading historians, journalists, curators and writers, as well as film screenings, field trips, music and entertainment. A huge variety of historical subjects and periods feature, reflecting the complex history of County Cork while also dealing with broader national and international themes, including the Decade of Centenaries.

This year, Festival topics will also be taking a long view on the triangular relationship between Ireland, Britain, and continental Europe.

Tickets are still available for all four days of the Festival, excepting for one of the field trips, which is already sold out. If you plan to visit, I'd recommend you make your arrangements and book promptly, as the event is always well-subscribed.
