The Breaking and Laveing the Countery exhibition opens today at Bailieborough Library, Co Cavan.
It covers 19th-century emigration and focuses on the numbers of people leaving the county, their parish origins, their various destinations abroad, and the system of chain migration. Real-life emigrant stories illustrate the the lives that statistical information fails to illuminate.
The exhibition is open during normal Library hours until the end of December and admission is free.
