Earlier MSPC Phases were delivered during 2014 (see blogposts for Phase One and Phase Two), and the records related to both releases are free to search on MilitaryArchives.ie.
Here's the tender's overview description for the next step of the digitisation project:
- In-house digitisation service for military archives
- The Department of Defence has set up a Military Service Pensions Project (MSPP), tasked with processing the material and files in the Military Service (1916–1923) Pensions Collection (MSPC) for release to the public through the Military Archives. A database and digital images from the files of veterans who applied for pensions, allowances or medals relating to their military service during the period will be released online. The Project is part of the Department’s contribution to the Centenary of the 1916 Rising and the Decade of Commemorations. The Project is located at Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines, Dublin 6.
- The ITT deadline is 16 April.
Invitation To Tender.
While the digitisation project is on-going, physical access to the MSPC at Cathal Brugha Barracks is closed. It's not expected that personal visitors will be able to access the papers until May 2016.
