Duchas adds Kilkenny's volumes to Schools Collection

The National Folklore Collection (NFC) has uploaded the Kilkenny schoolbook manuscripts to its online Schools Collection at dĂșchas.ie. Some 115 schools in the county took part in the project back in 1937 to 1939 when school children were asked to record folklore material gleaned from talking to their parents and elderly members of their communities.

Across the 26 counties, about 50,000 primary school children took part in the Schools' Collection project, which is an important component of the NFC.

The website now holds the Schools' Collection volumes for 12 counties: Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Leitrim, Limerick, Monaghan, Mayo, Sligo and Waterford.
